Beats and Microbeats, Pacing Your Novel

In a novel, pacing is everything. Bad pacing, or using beats incorrectly, can destroy a book. But even more powerful than a beat is a term Devri likes to call the micro beat. In this class you’ll be learning about beats and micro beats through video.

Reading uses tremendous energy as we require our brains to multitask—converting letters to words, then sentences, while also creating the accompanying images within our mind. On the other hand, when we watch a movie all of that has been done for us, leaving us as the observer and freeing up our mental space to both see and feel the tools being used. Once this new way of approaching both pacing and beats has been identified and felt via filmteaching you to then transfer that from screen to paper is a natural next step.

Join us as Devri teaches you how to create killer action scenes, jamming dialogue, nail biting drama and romantic moments that will leave your readers swooning for more!

Meet Devri

Devri Walls is an international best selling author. She lives in Meridian, Idaho with her husband, two children and one adorable little mutt. Writing in all things fantasy, she would do just about anything for a working magic wand.
Mostly because she’s a walking disaster and a wand would be of enormous help…although she’d probably trip and break it. So, there’s that.
She graduated with a degree in theater and has studied vocal performance most of her life. She now teaches voice lessons when she’s not writing novels, cooking dinner, playing taxi, spending time with her amazingly supportive husband or trying to read.
